We use science-based decodable books during our daily journal time, where students even get to choose which story we read as a class. Giving them this choice has increased their excitement and participation, making reading a more enjoyable experience.\r\nAfter reading, we select sentences from the story to write in our journals. This allows students to practice phonics, sentence structure, and handwriting while reinforcing what they've read. They then draw a picture to match their sentence, helping them connect meaning to text. These decodable books have been especially helpful because they support my students as they are learning to read, giving them the confidence to decode words independently.\r\nThe floating shelves have also made a big difference in our classroom. By displaying the books we will read each week, students can easily access and revisit them. This has encouraged more independent reading and created excitement around our weekly texts.\r\nDuring small group instruction, I use Charge into Reading Decodable Books (Stage 1) to provide targeted support. These readers help students focus on short vowel sounds and other foundational phonics skills at their level. I have already seen growth in their ability to decode words and participate more confidently during reading activities.\r\nYour support has helped create a classroom where students feel excited, supported, and capable as they learn to read.
