One of the most memorable moments was when I introduced our hygiene project using the new materials. We set up a \"self-care station\" where students could explore items like toothbrushes, soap, and hand wipes. They were eager to handle the materials, ask questions, and even role-play routines like handwashing and brushing teeth.\r\n\r\nThe first reaction was pure excitement—several students smiled and said things like, \"We get to use these?\" For many of them, it felt empowering to have tangible, real-life items they could practice with in a safe classroom environment.\r\n\r\nRight now, our next steps include putting this knowledge into action through a hands-on project. Students will be creating posters that illustrate step-by-step hygiene routines, which we'll display around the classroom and school. This will not only reinforce their learning but also allow them to take ownership and share their knowledge with peers. The project connects directly to our goals of building independence, confidence, and healthy habits.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, what started as simple supplies has grown into an engaging, meaningful project that makes a real difference in their daily lives.","fullyFundedDate":1741374358034,"projectUrl":"project/hygiene-heroes/8950866/","projectTitle":"Hygiene Heroes","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rice","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7700026"},{"teacherId":9713240,"projectId":8713730,"letterContent":"Thank you so incredibly much for funding our class project. Both teachers and students appreciate the non-standard comforts when they work together for extra help and tutoring.\r\n Secondly, our game room has benefitted greatly from alternative lighting allowing for several different spaces to be created whether students need to calm, create, or produce and work in harmony in this common space.\r\n Finally, our mobile push-in support cart offers resources only available on it. One specific project we're working on involves creating \"Calming Corner Journals.\" Students use fidget items and calming tools to regulate their emotions, then write or draw in their journals about how they feel afterward. This helps us integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) with reflection and self-awareness activities.\r\n\r\nStudents' reactions to the materials:\r\nWhen the students first saw the fidget items and calming tools, their excitement was palpable! They eagerly explored the tools, sharing with each other what they liked best. One student even exclaimed, \"This makes me feel so much better already!\" It was amazing to see their immediate connection to the resources.\r\n\r\nNext steps in our SEL journey:\r\nOur next focus is incorporating these tools into group discussions where students share strategies that help them feel calm and focused. We're also integrating role-playing scenarios to practice problem-solving and emotional regulation.
