The scooter boards, bubbles, balls, and sidewalk chalk have brought so much excitement and movement to our outdoor play time. My students were thrilled when they first saw all the new materials and could not wait to use them. One of their favorite activities has been riding the scooter boards and playing with the balls together. It has been wonderful to watch them have fun while also practicing gross motor skills, balance, coordination, sharing, and taking turns.\r\n\r\nThe bubbles and sidewalk chalk have also created great opportunities for learning through play. We use the chalk to practice drawing, making shapes, writing letters, and being creative, while bubbles encourage students to communicate, interact with their peers, and practice skills such as reaching, jumping, and taking turns. These simple activities are especially meaningful for my preschool students because they allow us to work on their individual IEP goals in a fun and natural environment.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue using these materials to build gross motor, social, communication, and academic skills during outdoor play. The chalks were also very useful for those who prefers a calmer and artistic playground and sidewalk activities!\r\nWe appreciate all of the help you lended my class, and for supporting our goals to give my students meaningful play time and prepare them to learn. All of our students have special needs, and one of our biggest areas of focus is helping them build adaptive and self-help skills, as well as executive functioning skills. Before we had this cabinet, materials were stored in different places, and many students struggled to stay organized or remember where their belongings were. Something as simple as finding their own items could be overwhelming, which often led to frustration and took precious time away from learning.\r\n\r\nNow, each student has a clearly defined space inside the cabinet where their materials are stored. This simple structure has become a powerful teaching tool. Students are learning to independently put away and retrieve their belongings, make choices, follow routines, and take responsibility for their materials. For our students, these are not small steps. These are real life skills.\r\n\r\nDuring free choice time, they walk to the cabinet, unlock it, and get what they need on their own. Seeing their excitement and confidence when they realize \"I can do this by myself\" has been incredible.\r\n\r\nThe cabinet has also transformed the atmosphere of our classroom. With materials stored in one secure place, the room feels less cluttered and more peaceful. Students are calmer, transitions are smoother, and the environment feels safe and predictable, which is especially important for children with special needs.\r\n\r\nThis project was not just about storage. It gave my students independence, structure, and a sense of ownership over their space.
