Having these books available has created more opportunities for students to explore different genres, formats, topics, and perspectives while choosing books that genuinely interest them.\r\n\r\nThe variety of titles has been especially valuable for my classroom because my students have a wide range of reading interests and abilities. Some students are enthusiastic, independent readers, while others need more encouragement and accessible choices to develop confidence and reading stamina. The picture books for older readers have provided an inviting way for students to engage with thoughtful stories and meaningful themes without feeling that the books are \"too easy\" for their grade level.\r\n\r\nThese books have also helped create a stronger culture of recreational reading in our classroom. Students enjoy recommending books to one another, discussing their favorites, and becoming more curious about what their classmates are reading. The California Young Reader Medal program gives students an authentic purpose for reading and allows them to participate in recognizing and celebrating books they enjoy.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this project has helped make our classroom library more inclusive and inviting.
