These novels allow me to teach essential literacy skills such as analyzing theme, tracking character development, evaluating an author's purpose, and citing strong textual evidence to support claims. Through Fahrenheit 451, my students examine censorship and the importance of independent thought, while Catching Fire sparks meaningful conversations about resilience, leadership, and moral choice. These texts naturally lead to rich discussions and analytical writing that strengthen both comprehension and critical thinking.\r\nSeveral of my students who were previously reluctant readers have especially connected with these novels. The fast-paced plot of Catching Fire has drawn in students who don't always see themselves as \"readers,\" while the graphic adaptation of Fahrenheit 451 has helped visual learners and struggling readers access complex themes with greater confidence. Watching my students eagerly turn pages, debate big ideas, and ask thoughtful questions has been the most meaningful outcome of all. Your support has made a lasting difference in my classroom and in my students' love of reading.","fullyFundedDate":1764738217031,"projectUrl":"project/inspiring-high-school-students-to-be-rea/9908833/","projectTitle":"Inspiring High School Students to Be Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Williams","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10356745_orig.jpg?crop=200,200,x0,y24&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1764800618935","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10356745"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_31422","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2592,"numTeachers":99,"percentFrplEligible":91,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":21,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":68,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"26.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.3,"schoolId":31422,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Eastside High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Eastside High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/antelope-valley-union-high-school-district/eastside-high-school/31422"}
