Unfortunately, since the project was funded towards the tail end of our winter break not all materials were able to arrive on time. (And other materials were out of stock and had to be replaced) Nonetheless, I was able to compile a Christmas goodie bag that our class scout elf, Sparkle Dingleberry, brought with the smelly playdoh, the glitter pens, and pop its. The magic of the holiday season was definitely in full effect despite the minor setback. The materials that arrived in January will be used to create Valentine's Day baggies for our students. \r\nThe stockings and ornaments will be saved for our future cohort of students. As such, your generous donation will not only impact this class, but also the Class of 2027! Our monthly art project for January was completed thanks to this restock. Students were able to use a white cardstock to draw a heart and decorate with a vivid pattern around it. \r\nOn the 100th day of school, I was able to print a crown to commemorate the day on the sturdy cardstock. Students truly enjoyed this coloring activity and even wore their crowns throughout the day. Christmas at Hogwarts was particularly a favorite because of our classroom theme. Even though they are sixth graders, our students still enjoy a classic read aloud during the holiday season; they truly were enthralled every morning while I read. Since we had 15 school days before break, I was able to read all of the new additions to our collection just in time. After listening to the story, students were asked to take an Accelerated Reader quiz on the story. It is safe to say that the majority of the students passed the quizzes with flying colors. The sensory lights, fiber optic strands, floor liquid tiles, LED bubble tube, Dinosaur Activity Wall Panels, sensory tent, and other materials you helped provide have made a remarkable difference in how my students experience their school day.\r\n\r\nBefore we had these items, many of my students struggled to manage moments of frustration or sensory overload. Transitions between activities, loud noises, or even unexpected changes in routine could quickly lead to anxiety and behaviors that made learning difficult. Now, with the calm corner in place, they know there is a designated space where they can go when they need to regulate and reset. This has changed the entire atmosphere of our classroom.\r\n\r\nWhen my students feel overwhelmed, they can choose to step into the calm corner—a place filled with soothing lights, textures, and gentle sensory experiences. It's amazing to see how they use the space independently. Some are drawn to the soft glow of the fiber optic lights, others find comfort watching the bubbles rise in the LED tube, and some simply enjoy lying on the floor tiles or sitting quietly inside the sensory tent. For many of them, this is the first time they have a space where they feel fully safe to just be themselves.\r\n\r\nHaving this calm area has not only reduced challenging behaviors but also empowered my students to recognize their emotions and take proactive steps to self-regulate. Instead of acting out or shutting down, they now communicate when they need a break or when the environment feels too overwhelming. This shift has led to more positive interactions, smoother transitions, and a greater sense of community within the classroom. They are learning that taking care of themselves is part of learning too.\r\n\r\nWhat's most touching is seeing how proud they are of this space. They often refer to it as \"their spot,\" a place that belongs to them. Knowing that they have a choice—to stay and learn or to retreat and regroup—has given them a sense of control and security that is often hard to find in a busy classroom setting.
