The new board games have already become a popular part of our library's low-tech makerspace! Students have been excited to choose a game, sit down with friends, and spend time together without their phones or other screens. Chess, Battleship, Life, and our other new games give students the opportunities to practice strategy, problem-solving, communication, patience, and good sportsmanship. They also just lets them have fun! The large Pop-it fidgets have also become a favorite for students who need a calming break.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite things about having these games in the library is watching students who might otherwise be sitting separately on their phones gather around a table and start playing together. They talk, laugh, teach each other the rules, celebrate when they win (sometimes loudly), and negotiate very seriously about chess rules (even though I printed them out and put them next to the chess board). The rules of the dice games especially have students working hard to problem solve together. The games have created natural opportunities for students to interact and build connections with each another. I hope to continue adding more games and activities to the library, but your donation has helped us make a great start. Instead of talking about the stock market in the abstract, we now have real time data moving across the screen all day. It has created an energy in the room that did not exist before.\r\n\r\nIn Personal Finance, the live stock ticker has become one of our most valuable tools. Students track companies they recognize, follow the ones they \"invested\" in during simulations, and make connections between world events and market movement. It has helped them understand concepts like risk, diversification, and long term planning in a way that feels real, not theoretical. They are not just memorizing terms. They are watching those terms play out in front of them.\r\n\r\nIn Accounting, the display helps us connect classroom concepts to real companies. When we talk about revenue, expenses, assets, or equity, students can immediately see how those fundamentals show up in the market. They compare companies, ask why one stock reacts differently than another, and start to understand how financial statements connect to real world performance. It has made the subject more concrete and accessible, especially for students who learn best by seeing things in action.\r\n\r\nWhat I appreciate most is how this display has pulled more students into the conversation. Some who were quieter before now jump in because the information is right there, moving and changing, inviting them to think and respond.
