Having these tools available has made a noticeable difference, students are learning to manage their emotions more independently, and our classroom environment feels calmer and more balanced overall.\r\n\r\nThe positive impact of your support doesn't stop there! The reward system made possible by your donations has brought new levels of motivation and teamwork to our classroom. When the students first saw the prizes, from big, colorful stickers to scented pens and even the promise of a neon party, their excitement was contagious. Several classes have already earned their first rewards, and now they're all working together toward the next goal. Watching them encourage one another and celebrate collective success has been such a joyful experience.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, my students are continuing to work toward achieving all the milestones we set at the beginning of the school year. Each goal they reach not only brings them closer to their next reward but also reinforces the values of teamwork, perseverance, and self-regulation. These items have not only supported their physical well-being but also boosted their self-esteem and confidence in the classroom.\r\n\r\nThis project has made a real difference. What used to be monochrome handouts and plain visuals are now transformed into vivid, meaningful materials that spark excitement and creativity. Each page printed feels like a small celebration of learning. From illustrated vocabulary cards to student projects, pictures, and artworks, the printer has become more than just a tool; it has become a bridge that connects imagination to reality. My students' eyes often light up as they see their digital work take physical form—no longer confined to screens or whiteboards, but alive in their hands.\r\n\r\nWhat stands out most is the renewed sense of ownership and pride among my learners. They have learned that their ideas, no matter how simple, deserve to be seen in full color. During our literacy and art blocks, students eagerly gather around the printer, waiting for their projects, pictures, and creative pieces to roll out—works that now look \"just like the ones in books,\" as one of them fondly said. In art sessions, they collaborate to print classroom displays that capture both their creativity and collective effort. The hum of the printer has become part of our daily symphony of learning—a sound of productivity, wonder, and growth.\r\n\r\nThere is one student, particularly reserved and often unsure of her voice, who found a sense of belonging through this technology. The first time she saw her printed artwork, she gently traced the edges of the paper and whispered, \"It's mine.\" Since then, she has started to share more of her work and even helps classmates design and print theirs. It's remarkable how one simple machine, powered by kindness and generosity, could color not just our walls, but our students' sense of confidence and identity as young learners.","fullyFundedDate":1754155114648,"projectUrl":"project/color-our-learning-an-ecotank-printer-f/9468056/","projectTitle":"Color Our Learning: An EcoTank Printer for Bright Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Escantilla","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9199938_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752685869655","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9199938"},{"teacherId":10032143,"projectId":9344854,"letterContent":"In Oakland, many schools are deeply underserved, which often forces teachers to spend money out of their own pockets to support their classrooms. Like many educators, I regularly fund materials based on my personal budget, even though teachers are not paid nearly enough for the amount of work we do. This creates a difficult reality: in order to keep our classrooms running smoothly and ensure students have what they need, we often have to take from our own family's budget. The generous donation that funded my project not only supported my students' success in reading, but also relieved the financial burden I would have otherwise taken on at home.\r\n\r\nThis school year, we began using a new program called Amira, an online AI-powered reading tool that tutors students in real time. With the high-quality headphones provided through this project, students can speak clearly into the microphone, which allows the program to give far more accurate feedback. These tools have been transformative for early readers who need immediate support and practice.\r\n\r\nIn addition to technology-based instruction, independent reading has returned to our classroom this year. Students are now using the skills they learn in class and through Amira as they engage with real books. Many have become excited about graphic novels such as The Babysitter's Club, Dog Man, and others. Meanwhile, emerging readers can select decodable books that match their skill level, allowing them to experience genuine success with texts they can truly read. This combination of resources has created a more equitable, joyful, and effective reading environment for all of my students.","fullyFundedDate":1750276940649,"projectUrl":"project/help-my-students-fall-in-love-with-readi/9344854/","projectTitle":"Help My Students Fall in Love with Reading!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jenkins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10032143"},{"teacherId":8580079,"projectId":9160157,"letterContent":"The Fuel Student Learning Through Their Favorite Snacks project brought meaningful and immediate benefits to our classroom environment. Providing students with access to their favorite snacks throughout the day helped support both their focus and emotional well-being—especially during longer periods of instruction and high-stress moments like testing. Offering their favorite snacks was more than a treat—it was a tool for encouragement and sustained academic focus. For students, a quick, familiar snack served as a moment of calm and comfort, giving them the energy to re-engage with their learning. This small but intentional act of care improved overall work productivity, reduced off-task behaviors, and created a more positive atmosphere in the classroom. The classroom project, Fun to Learning: Exciting Classroom Prizes Rewarding Student Success, brought a noticeable shift in the energy, motivation, and overall culture of our learning environment. By offering fun and exciting prizes as incentives, students were not only more motivated to stay on-task and complete their work, but they also began to take greater pride in their effort and consistency. These rewards—ranging from small toys and school supplies to mystery prizes—gave students something tangible to look forward to, especially during challenging academic moments. For many, the prizes symbolized recognition of their hard work and positive choices. This project helped build a stronger sense of community and joy in the classroom, where students celebrated not just their own growth, but each other's achievements as well. Most importantly, it reinforced the message that learning can be both productive and fun. When students are motivated and excited, their focus improves—and that directly supports deeper learning and engagement. In classrooms where students often face external challenges, creating a culture that celebrates effort and responsibility through positive reinforcement is not just helpful—it's essential. Introducing translated versions of popular English books into our classroom had a powerful and lasting impact on our newcomer and Spanish-speaking students. These familiar stories—now in their native language—gave students the confidence to engage more deeply with literature, participate in class discussions, and feel included in the reading culture of our classroom. Books like Percy Jackson, I Survived, and A Series of Unfortunate Events became bridges between two languages, allowing students to build vocabulary, identify literary elements, and strengthen comprehension without the added barrier of translation. \r\n\r\nThese books also taught essential lessons about resilience, courage, friendship, and problem-solving—skills that were/are especially meaningful to students adjusting to a new environment. By seeing the same books their peers loved in their own language, students felt their identity and language were valued in our classroom community. Access to these translated texts matters because it opened the door to equity in learning, nurtures a love for reading, and ensures every student has the opportunity to grow academically and emotionally through literature.
