Through our mobile lemonade stand, students are learning that running a business involves much more than simply making and selling a product. They are practicing how to plan a budget, calculate ingredient and supply costs, set prices, track sales, and determine profit percentages. These experiences are helping students understand how money moves through a business and how everyday decisions can affect financial success.\r\nThe point-of-sale system and cash drawer have transformed our classroom into a practical learning environment where students can apply math, technology, communication, and entrepreneurship skills in real situations. Students are entering customer orders, organizing transactions, monitoring sales, and reviewing business reports. They are also learning to count cash, make correct change, organize denominations, and balance the drawer at the end of each sales event. For many students, these are skills they will use in their first jobs, future careers, or even their own businesses.\r\nThis grant has also helped students build confidence, responsibility, and independence. Instead of only learning about entrepreneurship from a textbook, they are actually making decisions, solving problems, working with customers, and seeing the results of their choices. Students are learning the important difference between money collected and actual profit by comparing the cost of producing each item with the revenue earned from sales. These experiences have made learning more relevant and meaningful while giving students practical skills they can carry with them beyond the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1786366957846,"projectUrl":"project/when-life-gives-you-lemons-learn-financ/10410100/","projectTitle":"When Life Gives You Lemons, Learn Financial Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Loyd","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6837168_orig.jpg?crop=750,750,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761070665026","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6837168"},{"teacherId":6837168,"projectId":10279152,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our \"Sweet Science: Learning with Cotton Candy!\" project! Your generosity brought excitement and hands-on learning into our classroom. Students were thrilled when they saw the new materials and immediately began asking when they would get to use them. The cotton candy resources gave us a fun way to connect classroom learning with real-world skills, and students were highly engaged because they were able to learn by doing.\r\nWe have been using the materials to explore the science behind cotton candy, including how heat changes sugar, how sugar crystals behave, and how a solid ingredient can be transformed into a completely different texture. Students have also practiced important skills such as measuring, following directions, food safety, teamwork, and problem-solving. One of the best parts has been watching students make connections between the science they are learning and the food-production skills they can use in future culinary or entrepreneurship projects.\r\nNext, students will continue using these resources as we connect food science with product development and entrepreneurship. They will have opportunities to experiment with flavors, presentation, cost, and marketing while learning what it takes to turn an idea into a finished product.
