Students took ownership of the challenge, using the measuring tapes to carefully record the dimensions of the feeders. They discussed how precision matters in engineering and quickly realized that even small measurement errors could make their feeder lids ineffective. Watching them measure, record, and remeasure showed how these tools transformed a simple activity into a true design-thinking experience.\r\n\r\nUsing real tools has made learning tangible and purposeful for my students. They are now moving forward to design and build custom lids that fit perfectly over our feed tubes to keep the raccoons out. The confidence and teamwork I see developing as they move from measuring to sketching and building are incredible.
