For years, we have been a strictly print-based journalism class publishing in the local paper The Chicot Spectator. While our students have diligently worked with the written word, your gift is allowing them to find their literal voices. We are currently in the middle of training, learning the nuances of audio interviewing—how to capture a story through sound, manage levels, and create a narrative that is conversational and interesting to our future listening public. \r\n\r\n\r\nTo be honest, the students are a bundle of nerves! They've shared that while being published in the school paper felt safe, this new medium feels like a combination of publishing and performing. It's a vulnerable, exciting step out of their comfort zones. Despite the \"mic fright,\" they are remarkably eager to share their perspectives with a wider audience. \r\n\r\n\r\nYour generosity is particularly meaningful here in the Delta. Many of our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and rarely have the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge creative technology. By providing these tools, you aren't just giving them hardware; you are giving them a platform to be heard and a chance to develop skills that will serve them far beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\n\r\nWe are working hard to have our first set of podcast recordings ready for the launch of our new Lakeside Life website. We would love for you to hear the direct impact of your gift. If you are comfortable doing so, please share a digital address or contact information through the Donors Choose platform so that once we are up and running, we can send you a direct link to our first episodes.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and for investing in the next generation of storytellers.","fullyFundedDate":1767187286597,"projectUrl":"project/voices-of-lakeside-life-empowering-stud/9653831/","projectTitle":"Voices of Lakeside Life: Empowering Student Journalism with Tech","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sims","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1250351_orig.jpg?crop=540,540,x0,y259&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1602458937599","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1250351"},{"teacherId":10280007,"projectId":9759795,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, my students now have the materials they need to engage more deeply in their learning. The headphones have been especially helpful in Spanish class because they allow students to listen clearly to audio in the target language. This gives them the opportunity to hear authentic pronunciation, practice their listening skills, and repeat words and phrases at their own pace without distractions. Being able to focus on the sounds of the language helps students build confidence and strengthens their ability to understand and communicate in Spanish.\r\n\r\nThe Crayola markers have also made classroom activities more engaging and creative. Students have been able to add color to their assignments, which helps them organize and remember important information. For example, students used the markers to create colorful Valentine's Day gift cards written in Spanish, allowing them to practice vocabulary in a fun and meaningful way. They also used the markers to design foldables about Spanish subject pronouns, using different colors to highlight and categorize pronouns so they can better understand and remember them.\r\n\r\nIt has been exciting to see how much students enjoy using these materials. The headphones allow them to practice listening more independently, while the markers give them the chance to express their creativity and take pride in their work. Your support has made our classroom more interactive and engaging, and it is helping students build both language skills and confidence in their learning.","fullyFundedDate":1766864369265,"projectUrl":"project/happy-hearts/9759795/","projectTitle":"Happy Hearts!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mondragon Jimenez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10280007_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758768207025","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10280007"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_49422","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":277,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":76,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":15,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"11.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":24.6,"schoolId":49422,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lakeside High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lakeside High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arkansas/lakeside-school-district/lakeside-high-school/49422"}
