There were math workbooks scattered across the floor, data notebooks and journals missing, and so on! The carts that I had to organize supplies in were just not cutting it. They were open, so things kept falling out of them and some were even broken! I shared a few pictures of what we previously had so you can see what a difference the cart with drawers will make. \r\n\r\nWhen I brought our packages in the room, the kids knew right away what was inside! I had told them that our project had been funded, so they knew our new carts with drawers would be arriving soon. They were so excited to open the boxes and even helped put the wheels on the bottom of them! Ownership makes such a huge difference. \r\n\r\nAfter opening and assembling them, they quickly emptied out our old carts and organized all their materials. They were so excited to have a place for everything! I cannot even begin to describe the excitement in the room! There has been eager anticipation over the last 21 days that only heightened the nearer we got to hatch day. This has easily been one of my most favorite activities that we have done this year. \r\n\r\nEvery step of the way, my students have been actively involved in the process of hatching the eggs. They helped choose the eggs to go in the incubator, choosing different shades and sizes from the eggs I brought from my house. They helped monitor the temperature and humidity. On day 7 when we candled the eggs for the first time, they were able to see the eyes and blood vessels developing. They were even able to identify eggs that were infertile. Upon returning from spring break, it was day 19 and excitement was high. We put a camera on the incubator and cast the video to my board so everyone could watch eggs move ever so slightly as baby chicks got into place for the big day. When the first pips showed up early on day 21, they could barely contain themselves. Today when they got to school, we had 5 baby chicks in the incubator and we spent the day watching 12 more chicks unzip and hatch. They have also been able to study the egg shells that the chicks hatched out of, seeing the membrane and blood vessels. Tomorrow they will get to hold the baby chicks before they go to their forever homes. \r\n\r\nHearing their excited shrieks and giggles and watching them literally jump for joy when a chick hatched will, without a doubt, be a memory that lasts forever, both for my students and myself. Thank you for helping me bring the life cycle of a chicken to life for them. Even more so, thank you for helping us make precious memories.","fullyFundedDate":1770171727049,"projectUrl":"project/what-came-first-the-chicken-or-the-egg/10040946/","projectTitle":"What Came First, the Chicken or the Egg?","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sumpter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp375894_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724470203779","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/375894"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_53058","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":294,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":93,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"11.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":62.6,"schoolId":53058,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Flippin Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Flippin Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arkansas/flippin-school-district/flippin-elementary-school/53058"}
