They cheered. Then when the microscopes arrived, they cheered some more. We began to use the microscopes the week after they arrived. \r\n\r\nThe 6th graders are learning about cell structure. So, we looked at animal and plant cells under the microscopes to compare and contrast the way they look and their structures. Right now, I am working on a mini-unit to teach the basics of the microscope and how to make slides to look at under the microscopes. The students are excited about getting to make their own wet-mount slides. \r\n\r\nThis project was mostly for the 6th grade students. A lot of the 6th grade curricululm can be enhanced with microscopes. However, the 5th grade is getting to take a peek at the unseen as well. They loved getting to see a gecko's shed skin up close and personal!
