While students build important literacy skills such as comprehension, vocabulary, creativity, and critical thinking through books, interactive materials help bring those stories and topics to life in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nItems such as sketch pads, pencils, baking pans, magnifying glasses, seeds, and bug nets allow students to connect hands-on experiences with what they are reading. For example, after reading nonfiction books about insects, nature, or plants, students can use bug nets and magnifying tools to explore the outdoors and observe living things firsthand. Sketch pads and pencils encourage students to draw, design, respond to stories, and express their understanding creatively. Baking pans and planting materials create opportunities for students to follow directions, observe growth, and make real-world connections to books about cooking, science, and life cycles.\r\n\r\nReading in our library looks active, engaging, and student-centered. Students are not only reading stories but interacting with them through exploration, creativity, and discovery. Many students who struggle with traditional reading activities become more excited and confident when they can touch, create, observe, and explore alongside a book. These materials help students see that books are more than stories on a page—they are invitations to learn, imagine, and experience the world around them.","fullyFundedDate":1743454651269,"projectUrl":"project/new-adventures/9143863/","projectTitle":"New Adventures","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Driver","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9851887"},{"teacherId":8386816,"projectId":9762495,"letterContent":"Having a printer in the classroom has made a significant positive impact on both my teaching and my students' learning. When I receive an unexpected new student, I am able to immediately print and copy materials so they can participate in class activities right away instead of simply observing. I can also print resources needed for meetings or send home materials that help families support their child's learning and close academic gaps.\r\n\r\nThe printer has also become an effective incentive for the class. When students have a particularly good day, I can print coloring pages or extension activities for early finishers, which keeps them engaged and motivated.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, having a printer in the classroom saves valuable instructional time. Previously, I had to send print jobs to the office and wait for a student to retrieve them, which often delayed lessons. Now, I can quickly make copies myself and keep instruction moving smoothly.\r\n\r\nOverall, having access to a classroom printer has greatly improved efficiency, enriched student learning, and made classroom management easier for both myself and my students.","fullyFundedDate":1759369038509,"projectUrl":"project/printer-for-the-classroom/9762495/","projectTitle":"Printer for the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Blanchard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8386816_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1648001055455","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8386816"},{"teacherId":10044978,"projectId":9382556,"letterContent":"As I walked into my first week of teaching ever, I was so nervous. I had only been given $50 from my school to spend on supplies, and the classroom I was walking into just didn't have what I needed. I was still in college, teaching through my final year, and between college tuition and first-year teacher expenses, I didn't have enough money to build the classroom my students deserved.\r\n\r\nThen I learned about DonorsChoose project being funded, and everything changed. All of a sudden, I was going to be able to give my students what they needed! My students walked into a fully supplied and decorated classroom, and oh my did they rock the year!\r\nWe saw incredible growth—128% growth in math! We went from 5 non-readers to every student being able to read. We shared so many laughs, learning moments, and countless memories together.\r\n\r\nI truly would not have been able to give my students that same experience without your help. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you for giving me the ability to be a better teacher, and thank you for giving my students the opportunity to come into a safe, fully equipped classroom where they felt supported and ready to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1751706461347,"projectUrl":"project/first-year-full-heart-empty-classroom/9382556/","projectTitle":"First Year, Full Heart, Empty Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Southwick","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10044978_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1782322356733","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10044978"},{"teacherId":9969689,"projectId":9227879,"letterContent":"The students and I have already started using the rhythm sticks and next week we will start to use the boomwhackers. Our schools old boomwhackers are in bad shape and testing these new ones on Monday is going to be a joy. When we begin our unit we on Melody and pitch students will be performing contemporary pop songs; this really increases student engagement. Music is not for every student but when we play contemporary songs as a class using boomwhackers the entire class is engaged.\r\nThe students were impressed with how new everything looked and smelled. We were able to do a guided discovery between the old and the new and the students seemed to want take care of the new instruments.\r\nI look forward to spending many fun Thursday and Friday afternoons playing contemporary songs with the students.","fullyFundedDate":1745827240575,"projectUrl":"project/replace-old-rhythm-band-instruments/9227879/","projectTitle":"Replace Old Rhythm Band Instruments","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Blinco","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9969689"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_48663","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":377,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":28,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":53,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":6,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"10.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.2,"schoolId":48663,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about John Jacobs Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"John Jacobs Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/washington-elementary-school-district/john-jacobs-elementary-school/48663"}
