Our class has been THRILLED by our new adventures into controlled environment agriculture! The grow lights have supported several amazing projects, from aquaponics systems to an indoor orchard! The spark of joy and excitement that has rippled through our classroom has been unreal! We are learning about managing complex agricultural systems, growing food, and having a blast! \r\n\tEvery single time a student enters our classroom, their eyes light up! Our controlled environment agriculture setup is absolutely striking and the students have never seen anything like it! That moment of discovery has been so incredible for me to observe and has generated so much interest in the class and agriculture in general! \r\n\tOur next steps are continuing to utilize our system are continuing to refine our approach as our plants continue to mature! Beyond just upkeep we'll also be learning about how changing the amount of light that plants are exposed to can stimulate them to move between seasonal cycles, like flowering and fruiting! This will help build our understanding and maximize the production of food! We just can't thank you enough!!!","fullyFundedDate":1769178235109,"projectUrl":"project/inspiring-students-with-controlled-envir/9902515/","projectTitle":"Inspiring Students With Controlled Environment Agriculture!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Dukes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9879341"},{"teacherId":9879341,"projectId":9013946,"letterContent":"What an incredible semester this has been with our new disc golf program in place!! Our PE classes have been absolutely thrilled to see the brand-new equipment. The vast majority of our students had never played disc golf in their life, and it was an absolute joy to see them dive in on our first day and learn the game. Disc golf is also incredibly accessible for beginners and students were much more willing to try than with other more intense sports. Additionally, in our hot Tucson climate disc golf presents an amazing opportunity for students to be outside playing, without the risk of heat stroke present in sports built around running. \r\n\r\n\tWe are really just scratching the surface for what the program is going to mean for our school community though! As students become more confident in the game they can become more and more involved in the process of setting up new courses on campus! The portable nature of the goals is absolutely perfect for PE; the courses can be brought in to prevent weathering when not in use and there is no limit to the number of possible courses that we can devise together. Disc golf has meant so much to our school in showing us all a path to fun and activity that we might not have considered before. Particularly for students that don't conceive themselves as athletes, disc golf presents an opportunity to reimagine their relationship with sports. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your incredible generosity. You have made such a difference for us.","fullyFundedDate":1739373203859,"projectUrl":"project/lifelong-fun-and-well-being-the-magical/9013946/","projectTitle":"Lifelong Fun and Well-being: The Magical World of Disc Golf!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Dukes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9879341"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_42554","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1001,"numTeachers":54,"percentFrplEligible":61,"percentAsian":14,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":38,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":33,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"18.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":81.8,"schoolId":42554,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about University High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"University High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/tucson-unified-school-district/university-high-school/42554"}
