Reading gives students confidence, it breaks down social and political boundaries, it inspires, offers creative spaces, teaches skills such as empathy and kindness, generates laughter and softness... reading and stories are one of the most important parts of learning and growth in my opinion. Your donation goes towards helping children in our K-8 school by growing our collection in the library. We are a small, Title I school, so budgets are small and purchasing books often comes last in the long list of things a school needs. But it is still so, so important to have diverse, fun, and new books to engage all the students with their wide range of interests and backgrounds!\r\n\r\nOur school is made up of many different students from many different walks of life. I like to have stories who can represent and model the reality of our school. That was one of my goals with creating the book list for this project: diversifying the characters, authors, and locations where the books take place. I also wanted to choose books that are popular, new, and exciting for the kids, because that is what is going to draw them into my library and create that fun, buzzing energy I am after. I want to increase book check out circulation numbers and the number of students popping into the library to look around at what is new recently shelved.
