It has been very hot in Tucson and just finally starting to cool down - so our garden projects have just started to get going.\r\n\r\nWe have been using the hose to water and help our school compost bin - which is a new project we just started last year. The hose is amazing! We also have hooked up the hose timer to our irrigation because the last one burnt in the Arizona sun. The plants we invested in two years ago we able to make it through the summer - which is always an accomplishment.\r\n\r\nSince the weather is cooling down, we will also start using the mats you helped us purchase to provide a quiet space for garden observations and classroom instruction outside! They loved candling the eggs and seeing them change over 21 days. Our chickens hatched this week, which has made for a very exciting week. Our school has really struggled with attendance since the COVID pandemic. An unintended benefit of this project has been many days with perfect or near perfect attendance! I love to see how engagement really boosts attendance and makes students look forward to school each day. We hope you love the pictures. I love having a letter for each student to sit on. It's been so helpful to be able to assign them a letter on the rug. Each student has an assigned letter which really helps with management. I can send students back to seats by letter. It also helps to keep students in their own space and really reduces the arguments. My class loves to come together on the rug for lessons and class meetings. This has been my favorite Donor's Choose project so far. With the materials I was able to assemble math game binders and take home supplies for students to practice their math games at home. \r\n\r\nMy students love games and it has been a great way to reinforce different math skills at home. It's also really helped parents to understand what we are learning here at school and support their child at home. For each standard I send home new games in the binder for students to practice. It's been a great addition to our classroom routines.
