My students have been using the new light and shadow center to explore how light travels, how shadows change, and how different materials interact with light. One of our favorite activities has been experimenting with flashlights and a variety of objects to predict and test the shadows they create. The students worked together, asked thoughtful questions, and were excited to share their discoveries with one another. Watching them investigate like young scientists has been incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nThe excitement began the moment we opened the boxes. My students couldn't wait to examine the flashlights, translucent materials, and shadow-making supplies. They were eager to start exploring, and their curiosity took over immediately. Hearing them say, \"Let's see what happens if we try this!\" reminded me exactly why I wanted to create this learning center.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to use these materials during our science investigations and STEM activities. Students will compare translucent, transparent, and opaque materials, design shadow puppets to tell stories, and work collaboratively to solve challenges using light and shadows. These experiences will strengthen their scientific thinking, expand their vocabulary, and encourage creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving. Thank you, The DonorsChoose Community, for giving my students the opportunity to learn through wonder, exploration, and joyful discovery. Your generosity has created experiences they will remember long after this unit is over.","fullyFundedDate":1778006175931,"projectUrl":"project/let-there-be-light/10097600/","projectTitle":"Let There Be Light!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Merry","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3308122_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1559706151228","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-merry"},{"teacherId":3308410,"projectId":9557139,"letterContent":"Our class has been so excited to begin using the new resources! There were wide eyes, big smiles, and so many questions! They immediately wanted to explore everything. Your generous gifts helped make research, projects, and a showcase for our parents and school community possible. It was so meaningful for my students to share their presentations throughout the last few months.\r\nThe headphones you donated were especially helpful during our science projects. We used them to record our voices for slide presentations that we created about hydroponics. The fourth graders were able to practice speaking clearly, explain their learning, and feel confident when sharing their ideas. We also used the headphones when we created presentations for our energy unit, which helped us sound more professional and made learning even more exciting and engaging.\r\nYour donation of clay and other media supplies brought creativity to life in each of the fourth grade classes that I teach. During our animal adaptations unit, the students planned and designed new animals using the materials you provided. They imagined habitats, created unique features, and explained how their animals would survive in the wild. These experiences made learning fun, meaningful, and exciting.","fullyFundedDate":1763593027876,"projectUrl":"project/multimedia-in-science/9752559/","projectTitle":"Multimedia in Science","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Barragan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4080048"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_60098","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":647,"numTeachers":40,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":87,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":1,"gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"16.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.8,"schoolId":60098,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pendergast Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Pendergast Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/pendergast-elementary-school-district/pendergast-elementary-school/60098"}
