Our students were so excited the day the Robot Mice arrived at school that we couldn't wait to use them. We immediately unboxed the robots, added batteries, and had a special lesson on caring for our new \"pet\" mice. While many people see technology as something just for playing games or watching videos, these robots are helping my young students build critical thinking skills. By pressing the colorful directional arrows on the backs of the mice, the children received their first hands-on lesson in coding. Problem-solving, active learning, and collaboration completely ruled the day as they figured out how to program their mice to navigate a physical space.\r\n\r\nThe level of motivation in the room has been magical. The students are completely captivated by how they can make a little robot move across the floor just by thinking through a series of commands. As a teacher, I know they are actually learning sequential ordering; a foundational skill necessary for more advanced mathematics and science. My students are so driven that they have now created paper cheese rewards for their mice to find and cut out scary cats for their mice to avoid as they program their way through the mazes they build. Their creative addition makes the learning process feel like a high-stakes game, keeping them deeply engaged and eager to try harder challenges.\r\n\r\nThis new technology has been especially impactful for one of my students who tends to be quieter and more reserved. She completely lit up when introduced to the robot mouse. She became classroom leader during the activity, confidently mapping out paths and helping her peers figure out how to debug their directional codes when a mouse went the wrong way. Seeing her confidence soar has been the greatest gift of all. Your kindness has not only brought technology into our classroom but has also unlocked a newfound passion for learning and teamwork in these children.
