With the new Lego building sets, my students have been able to turn their ideas into real models while learning about design, engineering, and problem-solving. One of our favorite projects involved students researching famous structures and inventions before working in small groups to recreate them using the Lego sets. It was incredible to watch them collaborate, test ideas, and proudly share their finished builds with their classmates.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the classroom quickly filled with excitement. Students' eyes lit up as they saw the Lego sets, and many immediately started imagining what they could build. One student excitedly said, \"This feels like we're real engineers!\" That moment captured exactly what this project was meant to do—help students see themselves as creators, innovators, and future problem-solvers.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, the learning doesn't stop there. Our next steps include students designing their own original creations inspired by real-world challenges. They will sketch their ideas, build prototypes, and explain how their designs could solve everyday problems. Because of your generosity, my students will leave 5th grade with resources that encourage them to keep learning and exploring over the summer. Each student will receive a small gift bag filled with engaging tools like practice cards, writing tablets, puzzles, and coloring books. To celebrate their hard work, we'll also include snacks and treats to enjoy as they begin their summer break.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for my students will be their Summer Learning Checklist. This checklist allows them to choose one activity each day and spend just 15 minutes reviewing a subject such as math, reading, social studies, science, art, or technology. The resources from this project will help them complete these activities in fun and creative ways—practicing math facts, writing ideas on their LCD tablets, solving puzzles, or relaxing while coloring and reflecting on what they've learned this year.\r\n\r\nI can already imagine their excitement on the last day of school when they see the bags waiting for them. These materials will celebrate their accomplishments while reminding them that learning doesn't stop when summer begins.
