Case in point: We're currently writing essays. It's so very important, but so very uninteresting (and overwhelming) for most of my students. This year, however, we used the white boards and buzzers you donated, and we made a game out of every step of the planning process. Students rushed to note what a thesis statement is. Next they competed to use their prompt to write a thesis. With much ado, we then rushed to come up with reasons to support that thesis ... and finally examples. Before they knew it, the essay was planned with a solid outline -- a key piece to helping them know what to do when they're writing and when to do it.\r\n\r\nNormally, planning is a dry but essential part of the writing process. Thanks to the white boards, buzzers, the cleaning wipes, and of course, the prizes, students were engaged. As you may know, engaged students are more likely to succeed in the short-term, but they're also more likely to remember the experience and what they learned through that experience. \r\n\r\nThis week, as we worked on wrapping up those essays, not a single student asked me, \"What's a thesis statement?\" -- a question I've answered countless times even though we've been covering it since the first month of school. For that alone, please know how much your donation means to me.\r\n\r\nOne hundred percent engagement is always my goal. Thank you for making that much more of a possibility through this hands-on classroom experience that my students will remember for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1767120883204,"projectUrl":"project/game-time-equals-learning-time/9938546/","projectTitle":"Game Time Equals Learning Time","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Alexander","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8662318"},{"teacherId":1498545,"projectId":9943132,"letterContent":"The whiteboard tabletops have raised the level of collaboration and communication in my classroom tremendously. Students are able to support each other in real time and on a larger scale than paper alone. They eagerly wait for seating chart changes to see if they are one of the lucky few who get to sit at the tables full time. I can model directly with students on the tables. When my students first saw the tables, they were ecstatic. They could not wait to utilize them further. My students have asked when I will be getting more tables like these for them to use. The technology and resources you helped provide are being used daily, and my students are thriving because of it.\r\n\r\nThe charging station has quickly become a favorite feature—high schoolers rely on their Chromebooks and phones for assignments, research, and communication, and now they have a reliable, organized place to power up. It's removed a daily stressor for many students, especially those who don't have consistent access to chargers at home.\r\n\r\nThe LED lamp and diffuser have created a calming atmosphere that sets our classroom apart from the rest of campus. Students often comment that the room feels \"safe\" and \"relaxing,\" which is especially important during high-stress times like testing or presentations. The soft lighting and scent options have made it a place they actually want to be.\r\n\r\nThe acrylic shelves are helping us display books and student work in an accessible, visually appealing way. Several students have told me they've picked up a book simply because it \"looked cool on the wall,\" which is exactly the kind of curiosity I hoped to spark.\r\n\r\nOne student in particular, who often struggles to stay focused in traditional classroom environments, has found a lot of comfort in the new setup. Having a space that feels calm and organized has helped them participate more and even share their work with peers.\r\n\r\nYour support has allowed me to start my first year of high school teaching with the kind of classroom environment I've always dreamed of creating. Every day, my students are benefiting from the tools you made possible, and I am deeply grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1750767678963,"projectUrl":"project/hello-high-school/9331703/","projectTitle":"Hello High School","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gray","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9897770_orig.jpg?crop=1179,1179,x0,y31&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746656265786","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9897770"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_65126","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1199,"numTeachers":56,"percentFrplEligible":50,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":51,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":41,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"21.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":74.2,"schoolId":65126,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Mingus Union High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Mingus Union High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/mingus-union-high-school-district-4/mingus-union-high-school/65126"}
