This is a story that students truly fall in love with—it captures their imaginations and draws even the most reluctant readers into the joy of reading. With every chapter, excitement builds, and students become deeply invested in Roz's journey. It's not uncommon for kids who are no longer in my class to stop by and ask if we're reading The Wild Robot again and what part we're on. It has become a touchstone text that connects students across grade levels and years, inspiring a culture of reading in our school.\r\n\r\nAcademically, the book opened up rich opportunities to dive deep into reading skills and strategies. We explored themes of survival, kindness, and identity, and students became thoughtful and reflective during character analysis discussions. We also practiced using context clues to determine the meaning of new vocabulary, enhancing comprehension in a natural, engaging way. Beyond reading, the story provided the perfect springboard for STEM extensions. Students investigated animal adaptations, designed and engineered homes for Roz and other characters, and even took on the challenge of caring for an \"egg,\" learning about responsibility and empathy. Thanks to this donation, our learning was not only meaningful but also full of joy and creativity.","fullyFundedDate":1628915195077,"projectUrl":"project/books-in-their-hands-and-hearts/5717653/","projectTitle":"Books in Their Hands and Hearts","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Frazee","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3211302_orig.jpg?crop=828,828,x260,y123&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1628572929484","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3211302"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_58844","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":510,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":49,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":36,"percentIndigenous":3,"percentLatinx":48,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"15.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":61.0,"schoolId":58844,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Field Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Field Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/mesa-public-schools/eugene-field-elementary-school/58844"}
