We've been able to redesign the classroom to allow students to work in different areas, which has made them feel more at ease in the learning space. A specific moment that highlights this shift occurred during our recent collaborative project: having new, comfortable seating meant students no longer had to sit on the floor, and the increased supply of whiteboard markers allowed them to naturally gravitate toward using the vertical surfaces to work through problems. This immediate access to tools for thinking out loud has led to a significant increase in engagement. When the materials first arrived, the students were naturally very excited, but their enthusiasm only grew when they realized these were not just decorations—they were tools to be used, which empowered their learning. For our next steps, we are integrating these flexible work areas into our current First Grade place value lesson. Students will be using the various seating options and whiteboard spaces to build, draw, and write out two-digit numbers using tens and ones, promoting both independent practice and small-group collaboration as they master this fundamental math concept.","fullyFundedDate":1746786173275,"projectUrl":"project/active-minds-active-seats-learning-eve/9120930/","projectTitle":"Active Minds, Active Seats, Learning Everywhere and Anywhere","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lopez Ibarra","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8809773_orig.jpg?crop=1401,1401,x0,y298&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1666420348031","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8809773"},{"teacherId":6933838,"projectId":9103637,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for finding this Donors Choose. My students really enjoyed the pencil boxes because they got to take ownership of their materials. It was funny because I had kindergarteners fighting over what color they wanted to have. The brightly colored clipboards added even some more color into the room. The students loved sitting around the classroom with their new clipboards to do their writing activities. And I personally want to thank you for the rolling organization carts. It saved a lot of space and clean up time. The students were able to put their clipboards along with their new pencil boxes inside them. I no longer had headphones roaming around my classroom nor did the kids have to go back and forth to their cubbies to get their work books.","fullyFundedDate":1739373538971,"projectUrl":"project/operation-organization/9103637/","projectTitle":"Operation Organization","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ellis-York","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6933838"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_75488","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":855,"numTeachers":50,"percentFrplEligible":62,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":14,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":73,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"17.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":52.1,"schoolId":75488,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Quentin STEM Academy for Health Sciences on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Quentin STEM Academy for Health Sciences","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/littleton-elementary-school-district-65/quentin-elementary-school/75488"}
