Many had never heard of hydroponics before, so we conducted a whole-class lesson on what hydroponics is and the different types available. The questions kept coming, especially about whether they would get to build their own system.\r\n\r\nThe hands-on experience exceeded our expectations. Students worked together to create wick systems using the donated materials, and their enthusiasm was truly inspiring. They were especially thrilled to learn they'll be able to take their projects home once we finish observing them in the classroom.\r\n\r\nRight now, we're in the waiting and observation phase. All students selected strawberry seeds to germinate, which are currently in the donated greenhouse. Each day, students observe and record the growth of their plants, and they're already asking thoughtful questions about plant care and the nutrients needed as their seedlings develop. We're equally eager to learn more about the nutrient requirements for hydroponic systems as the plants begin to grow.\r\n\r\nOnce we successfully grow strawberries using the wick hydroponics method, we're planning to expand to tomatoes and lettuce for the winter growing season.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for making this meaningful learning experience possible for our students. Their curiosity and engagement have been remarkable.","fullyFundedDate":1778015445344,"projectUrl":"project/hydroponics-101/10234500/","projectTitle":"Hydroponics 101","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Yazzie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4850970_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x230,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1703109073088","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4850970"},{"teacherId":4850970,"projectId":9229622,"letterContent":"Thank you for providing the sketchbooks and art supplies for my class.
