Through Flat Stanley's travels, students are learning about geographical and cultural features of different countries around the world. With my second grade English learners, we read Flat Stanley as a group throughout the year, and at the end of the year students choose a country to research. They find immense joy in learning about new countries, while also learning how to use books to research information and find facts. We celebrate at the end of their presentation (posters with pictures and information) by trying a food from each country. \r\n\r\nThe other half of this project were books about national parks. My 4th grade students choose a national park to research after reading The Campground Kids series, where they are introduced to a variety of parks. They learn how to do internet research safely, and create PowerPoint presentations of their park. At the end of the presentations, they receive a free national parks pass. I see kids rocking in the wobble chairs! I see kids pushing against the bands on the legs of their chairs. I see children's feet put in between the bands and pushing the band outwards in front of them and then put their feet behind the band. \r\nI feel like there is less \"problems\" in the class and more focus with these chairs! All of you who donated have made a new class of kids who get distracted easily, have the ability to focus more! They are getting their wiggles out and their movements out and I see the children learning!\r\n\r\n Thanks so much for helping with my project to give my children a way of \"fidgeting\" while they learn so they can focus better!id look into getting more wobbly chairs in the future becuase the students love them and enjoy having the ability to move around while they learn. Having access to high-quality novel study materials has allowed my students to dive deeper into texts through meaningful discussions, vocabulary development, comprehension activities, and critical thinking tasks. Many of my students have become more excited about reading because the studies provide structure and interactive opportunities that help them better connect with the characters, themes, and events in the stories we read together.\r\n\r\nThese novel studies have also supported differentiated instruction and collaboration within the classroom. Students are able to participate in partner work, small group discussions, and independent activities that meet a variety of learning needs and reading levels. I have noticed growth not only in academic skills such as fluency, comprehension, and written responses, but also in students' confidence as readers. The materials have helped create a positive reading culture where students are eager to share their ideas and make connections between literature and their own experiences.\r\n\r\nOverall, the donation has enriched our literacy instruction in meaningful ways and provided opportunities that may not have otherwise been available to our classroom.
