After learning to read from these books, the kids are able to read sheet music for songs that will be performed at concerts. \r\n\r\nThe students who are enjoying the books the most are the new violin and viola students. They are first time musicians, and they are so excited to play the songs from the book. They were so proud of the results they got.\r\nIn May, I will be storing chicken wings for students to dissect and learn about the musculoskeletal system. Their tone quality, dynamics, and blend is improving each day now that the instruments can vibrate properly. The percussion instruments are projecting and blending too! The new mallets are not clunky sounding like the old ones that ran out of yarn. \r\n\r\nWe are excited to share our new songs with the school next month during mini concerts in other classes. The elementary schools that send kids to our high school are not offering general music classes either, so everyone is learning to read and play simultaneously. Students are more motivate to show up after school to get help knowing that they will be fed, and also come into an environment that is centered around their needs. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the reading nook I created with these materials, they were extremely excited and curious about how I could afford such a set up. I explained to them that we were award these gifts from Donors Choose, which made them even more thrilled. They felt like winners! \r\n\r\nAt the end of every novel we read, students create theme posters. This gives them the opportunity to showcase the novels key points in an artistic fashion. The valve oil helped the trumpets, baritones, and tubas play they legato lines more smoothly and the staccato/accented passages in a clear fashion! All of the art supplies have enhanced our music classroom through different opportunities to SHOW what we are trying to do with sound. The new markers are particularly energizing to the kids when they use them! Old dry markers are no fun, so you have saved the day!!! Our students have also been able to share kind messages of encouragement with each other and with local community members using the fancy cards. It has been wonderful to see and hear all of the great things the kids are doing in class.
