The stick bag made our tenor drummer MUCH MORE CREATIVE in his stick changes during the music (definitely a different type of creativity than the art supplies). The valve oil helped the trumpets, baritones, and tubas play they legato lines more smoothly and the staccato/accented passages in a clear fashion! All of the art supplies have enhanced our music classroom through different opportunities to SHOW what we are trying to do with sound. The new markers are particularly energizing to the kids when they use them! Old dry markers are no fun, so you have saved the day!!! Our students have also been able to share kind messages of encouragement with each other and with local community members using the fancy cards. It has been wonderful to see and hear all of the great things the kids are doing in class. Our community does not have the ability to support our schools and programs financially and we are often interacting with schools that have the means to buy everything for their student athletes. The soloists will really be able to make a good sound without blasting now!!!! Their families get to hear them and cheer for them too! When we play solos during the halftime show at the October games, this will be a HUGE celebration, especially at Homecoming. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the microphone, they all giggled, smiled, and yelled about how fancy it is! Everyone wants to try it and hear their friends try it too! \r\n\r\nThank you for helping us give this experience to the kids. Some of them have only seen microphones on videos online or on TV. Everyone who uses them sounds INSTANTLY BETTER as they play their music. It is really nice to be able to make sure students have what they need to sound good and have fun playing their instruments! \r\n\r\nThe students also enjoy looking at the photos and awards they have won. One of our seniors organized everything and hung it on the wall in the classroom. Kids like to find their photo and photos of people they know from recent events. It provides a great way for the students to socialize, reflect on past success, and look forward to the future. We have more frames ready to display new photos as we go through this year. One of the freshmen today said, \"I think I'm actually IN THIS ONE!!!\" Now they are on the wall of fame just like the bands from the past six decades. It is a great way to feel like they are finally part of the group. After winter break, most of the students need a new reed for their clarinet and saxophone, and you made that possible!!! This helps the kids sound much better which makes them feel good about the songs they are practicing. The swabs are keeping the instruments clean and in good working order! That is a HUGE help! Thank you!!!\r\n\r\nThe notebooks are helping in many ways as well! The kids are able to write goals and evaluate their progress. They are also writing about how they feel in band and what they hope to do in the future. Many of the kids are making short term and long terms goals for the first time. The notebooks provide a framework to look back and see how much they have accomplished and how their feelings have developed over the weeks and months. I have seen anxious students take a deep breath, grab a fidget, and ground themselves before the day begins. I have seen hesitant artists sketch their feelings on doodle paper as a quiet form of expression. I have watched students become more confident in advocating for their needs because they know they have options available to them. These improvements in emotional regulation directly influence their academic performance, their collaboration with peers, and their ability to build healthy habits that will serve them far beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nYour support has also created a legacy that spans multiple groups of students. As classes rotate, graduate, and move on, the tools remain—helping generation after generation feel seen, supported, and empowered. Your donation has sparked a culture of empathy and community care. The impact is not only ongoing; it is multiplying.\r\n\r\nI want you to know that your generosity did more than supply materials—it validated the idea that mental health matters in educational spaces. You helped create a classroom where students can learn without feeling overwhelmed and where they understand that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. That message is priceless.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students.","fullyFundedDate":1662252709712,"projectUrl":"project/i-need-a-mental-break/6763618/","projectTitle":"I Need a Mental Break!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hernandez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2149550"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_58646","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1811,"numTeachers":85,"percentFrplEligible":64,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":8,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":75,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"21.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.8,"schoolId":58646,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Glendale High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Glendale High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/glendale-union-hsd-205/glendale-high-school/58646"}
