The table lamps are a hit, and have made our room feel much calmer and cozier. They especially like to use them for independent reading or drawing, because it adds such a layer of warmth to use table lamps instead of overhead lights. \r\nThe camera was a surprise to my students, and possibly their favorite part of this purchase. When we took our hiking excursion this fall, I revealed to the students that every 20 minutes, I would randomly draw a name and that student would get to be the class photographer. This would allow for a variety of perspectives through the lens, while also allowing for students to remain focused on our learning tasks for most of the time. The photos I have attached are all taken by students through their eyes. Last year, our school was a pilot in our district for rolling out a new math curriculum. As the new supplies came rolling in, I was overwhelmed by how many math manipulatives we were given. While I was so excited for how my students would have opportunities for hands-on learning, my first thought was \"where am I going to put all this stuff?!\"\r\nWith your support and a few trips to the thrift store, I was able to organize those materials so they were accessible to students. This allowed for students to advocate for themselves, as they accessed clearly marked and separate tubs for different tools as needed. They did not have to ask my permission to get what they needed, but were encouraged to help themselves to the clearly available materials. \r\nThank you for making that possible. As we began this new school year, it was clear that these supplies will help years of students to come. It serves as a seating area for wiggly kiddos, a theater for videos, a meeting space for circle time and a play space for games. \r\nAt the start of every social emotional class, students know to walk over to the carpet and sit in a circle. This is the format I use to give instructions for the day, and then we take turns going around the circle and answering our \"question of the day\", for example, \"What is your favorite animal?\" Sitting in a circle allows us to see one another eye-to-eye and make peer connections that can't happen in standard table seating arrangements. \r\nThank you, thank you, thank you for supporting public education in a time when our money and resources are being threatened more each day. I cannot express how grateful I am to work at Kinsey, with the students I do, and your support for my work means the world.
