My students were so excited when they first saw our new classroom library materials. Having a comfortable, inviting space filled with books has made reading feel like something to look forward to. Students love choosing a book, finding a cozy spot, and settling in to read independently or with a partner.\r\n\r\nWe are using our new resources every day during independent reading, small-group instruction, and moments when students simply want to pick up a book and read. One of my favorite moments has been watching students recommend books to one another and get excited when a classmate finds a book they love. Our cozy reading corner has become a place where students can slow down, explore new stories, and build confidence as readers.\r\n\r\nAs we continue the school year, my students will keep working on reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and developing a love of reading. Your generosity has helped create a classroom environment where students can see themselves as readers and feel proud of their growth. They immediately used the paint stirrers and paint supplies to design informational art to display in our school garden. The students completed a research project and then used their creativity to illustrate the ideas in an eye-catching way. \r\n\r\nThe students were so excited about the variety of seeds that we received and have already planted many of them out in the garden. We were able to use the oven to make chips from our first kale harvest.\r\n\r\nWe are looking forward to using the notebooks next year to have larger botany journals to be able to do even more labs, nature journals, and scientific sketches. With earth day approaching, we are also looking forward to using the resources to make our own paper out of scraps from the classrooms, as well as making new crayons out of the pieces of old crayons. \r\n\r\nThank you again for such an abundance of supplies that are not only changing how we are able to use our school garden this year, but will continue to help push our learning forward for many years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1767136671917,"projectUrl":"project/using-the-garden-to-flex-our-creativity/9975352/","projectTitle":"Using the Garden to Flex Our Creativity","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Layshock","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2337503_orig.jpg?crop=2711,2711,x0,y144&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1767135582426","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-layshock"},{"teacherId":2337503,"projectId":9301943,"letterContent":"Our students just finished their first project of the year thanks to the resources provided by your generous donation. All of our 3rd-6th grade junior botanists were assigned a mystery pollinator from the Sonoran Desert. They used their technology to research what their pollinator looks like, what they eat, where they live, if they like certain colors, and other fun facts. They then had to develop a design for a pollinator house. \r\n\r\nWhen I revealed that we actually had the supplies to make their designs a reality, they were so excited! With the supplies in hand, they then had to revise their ideas in order to collaborate with a partner to bring their final designs to life. These supplies helped our students show leadership, creativity, compassion, and hard work.\r\n\r\nThis week, we began choosing the perfect spots around campus for these pollinator homes to live. We can't wait for all students and families to enjoy seeing these projects around school, all classrooms can use them to make great observations about nature, and most importantly, our students feel great about helping our local garden pals feel safe and providing them with a home.
