They connected batteries, wires, switches, and bulbs and quickly discovered that getting a circuit to work sometimes required a little persistence! It was wonderful to watch them troubleshoot their designs, work together, and make adjustments. The best moments came when a bulb finally lit up and students realized that their own problem-solving made it happen.\r\n\r\nMy students were so excited to see the batteries and learn that they would actually be building and experimenting during science. They loved being able to test their ideas instead of simply reading about electricity or looking at diagrams. Students have loved using the glowing materials to explore musical form, movement, patterns, and choreography in a way that feels exciting and magical.\r\n\r\nWe are already dreaming up even more ways to use these resources! We'll be incorporating the black lights into Halloween and glow-themed music activities across all grade levels, as well as using them to add an extra element of excitement to special numbers in future concerts and programs. What started as a new set of performance tools has become a creative way for our students to experience music through movement, visual patterns, and joyful exploration.
