The funding allowed us to purchase hands on materials and adaptive tools that directly support my students access to their education. They are able to communicate and learn independent living skills. With the new resources, my students are more engaged, more confident and feel like the classroom is their safe haven. The materials have transformed our learning taking concepts from abstract to concrete. It has given them meaningful opportunities to practice skills in real-world contexts rather than simply hearing about them. As a result, I have seen measurable growth in independence and social interaction. \r\n\r\nMost importantly, this funding has opened doors to life skills instruction that my students would not have access to otherwise. The supplies are helping them practice daily living routines such as cutting food, tying shoes, learning how to make change, fold laundry, etc. This has increased their independence beyond the classroom. For my students repetition and hands-on practice are essential.
