These new texts allow us to work on important literacy skills such as identifying themes, analyzing characters, making inferences, and citing evidence directly from the text to support ideas. Students are also learning how authors use figurative language and structure paragraphs to develop key concepts. Having engaging books makes these lessons much more meaningful because students can actively apply these skills while reading stories they enjoy.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is very interactive. Students often read independently, with partners, and sometimes as a whole class. During reading time, you will see students highlighting key details, discussing their thinking with classmates, and responding to questions that challenge them to think deeper about the text. We focus heavily on discussion and critical thinking so students can explain their ideas and support them with evidence.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have already become especially excited about the new books. Some of my quieter readers who normally hesitate to participate are now volunteering to read and share their thoughts during discussions. Others have been eager to borrow books during independent reading time because they are genuinely curious about the stories. Seeing students become more confident readers and more engaged in class conversations has been incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped create a classroom environment where students feel excited to read, explore new ideas, and grow as thinkers. Thank you for investing in my students and helping make reading a meaningful and enjoyable experience for them.","fullyFundedDate":1766363845449,"projectUrl":"project/turn-the-page-together/9967841/","projectTitle":"Turn the Page Together!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Brown","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10389034_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1766365926197","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10389034"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_131471","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":940,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":62,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":19,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":72,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":131471,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Academy Math & Science - South Mountain on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Academy Math & Science - South Mountain","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/arizona-department-of-education/academy-math-science-s-mountain/131471"}
