Every Tuesday, we would meet, write our stories, and work on turning them into our books. Writing Club this year had an extremely diverse group of hard working students. About 2/3 of my students were English learners ranging from Mexico all the way to Malaysia. I had students from self-contained classrooms, homeless students, as well as younger brothers and sisters. Hearing their stories was absolutely amazing.\r\n\r\nEach student wrote a story that was personal to them. Stories ranged from the challenges of learning English in a new country at 10 years old, to an injury that kept them from playing sports, to a student who moved from a self-contained classroom to a general classroom setting. \r\n\r\nOur book kits are complete and are set to be mailed off in January. This \"thank you\" is due earlier than the books would arrive. However, in the pictures I've included some of the pages the students have completed so that you can see how appreciated this project was. \r\n\r\nWriting at our school during the standard school day is very essay focused. It was amazing to have the time and ability to creatively write with students and learn all of the things they had to share. All of this was thanks to your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1726610807685,"projectUrl":"project/middle-schoolers-publishing-their-own-st/8754575/","projectTitle":"Middle Schoolers Publishing Their Own Stories!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kormendy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8373953_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1649288935995","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8373953"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_69502","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":680,"numTeachers":52,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":80,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"5 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"13.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":68.5,"schoolId":69502,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Sevilla Elementary School-West on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Sevilla Elementary School-West","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/alhambra-elementary-school-district-68/sevilla-west-school/69502"}
