Getting middle school kids to give up their recess to read sounds like an unattainable goal, but with this project I had a list of students wanting to participate. The anticipation of discovering our first read worked like magic! They were so excited to unwrap their first book, start reading, and engage in conversation! I watched them in awe flip through the pages and share their predictions. Now we get to explore the book together, share our thoughts and ideas all while enjoying some snacks!","fullyFundedDate":1752020470343,"projectUrl":"project/blind-date-with-a-book-a-culture-of-cur/9446004/","projectTitle":"Blind Date with a Book: A Culture of Curious Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hernandez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7238147_orig.jpg?crop=1242,1242,x0,y235&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1740860945619","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7238147"},{"teacherId":9916599,"projectId":9099303,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for helping fund our project! With your generosity, we've been able to stock our classroom with the essential supplies we need to keep learning running smoothly, as well as motivational incentives that keep students excited and engaged.\r\n\r\nWhen the supplies arrived, my students were thrilled. Something as simple as having their own materials, without having to worry about sharing or going without; really boosted their confidence. The incentives have also been a huge hit! Students love earning small rewards for their effort, and it has created a positive classroom environment where they are motivated to try their best.\r\n\r\nRight now, we're working on building models to understand ecosystems, and these resources make it possible for students to focus on learning instead of worrying about what they don't have. Our next step is to keep building on this momentum and continuing to set goals, celebrate achievements, and show students that their hard work pays off.\r\n\r\nYour kindness made this possible, and my students and I are so grateful!","fullyFundedDate":1745847087251,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-ib-scholars-with-essential-su/9099303/","projectTitle":"Empowering IB Scholars With Essential Supplies and Motivational Incentives","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rosas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9916599_orig.jpg?crop=1780,1780,x780,y870&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1738727232029","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9916599"},{"teacherId":7238147,"projectId":6294555,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our \"Stitching for Social Justice\" project! Because of you, my students now have access to sewing machines that bring their creativity and compassion to life.\r\n\r\nWhen the sewing machines first arrived, the excitement was immediate—students couldn't wait to try them out. Many had never touched a sewing machine before, and it was inspiring to watch their nervous curiosity transform into confident hands guiding fabric through the machine.\r\n\r\nThis year, my 8th graders used the machines to create social justice quilts based on designs they imagined during our unit on identity, equity, and advocacy. Each square represented a belief, a personal experience, or a call for change. One student sewed a patch symbolizing environmental justice with a tree and Earth stitched together, while another created a heart stitched with multiple skin tones to represent racial unity. The room buzzed with meaning, pride, and purpose.\r\n\r\nEven beyond this unit, the machines have become a lasting part of our classroom. Students use them for various interdisciplinary projects—from designing wearable poetry to crafting service-based projects that are donated to our local community. These machines have not only opened doors to creativity, but also empowered students with a real-world skill and a deeper sense of agency.\r\n\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in our classroom. Your kindness helped stitch something truly powerful into the hearts and minds of my students.","fullyFundedDate":1647475079257,"projectUrl":"project/stitching-for-social-justice/6294555/","projectTitle":"Stitching for Social Justice","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hernandez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7238147_orig.jpg?crop=1242,1242,x0,y235&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1740860945619","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7238147"},{"teacherId":9577617,"projectId":8471833,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, my classroom has been transformed into a more engaging, comfortable, and supportive space for my fourth-grade students. The flexible seating options you helped provide gave my students the opportunity to choose how and where they learn best—whether it was a cozy cushion on the carpet, a wobble stool, or a beanbag in the reading corner. This choice led to increased focus, more active participation, and a greater sense of ownership over their learning. One student who used to struggle with staying in their seat began thriving once they were able to work from a floor desk with a cushion. These small but meaningful changes made a big difference in how my students approached their learning each day.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were full of excitement. Many of them come from low-income families and don't always have access to new or comfortable supplies, so the joy and surprise on their faces was unforgettable. They were eager to explore the different seating options and quickly began using them during independent reading, writing time, and group work. It was heartwarming to see how much more confident and calm they felt in a space that was designed with their comfort and needs in mind.\r\n\r\nAs the school year progressed, these resources continued to make a lasting impact. The environment we created together with your support became a safe and welcoming place where students could focus, collaborate, and feel at home. Your generosity helped build a classroom that supported not only academic growth, but emotional well-being too. I can't thank you enough for being part of our journey this year.","fullyFundedDate":1726666972376,"projectUrl":"project/building-safe-havens-fostering-an-inclu/8471833/","projectTitle":"Building Safe Havens: Fostering an Inclusive Learning Environment","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tagg","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9577617"},{"teacherId":9904150,"projectId":9074019,"letterContent":"Our new lighting has had a great impact on our students.
