In a science classroom, calculators are essential tools and it really makes a big difference when each student can have one while working on lab activities, and other coursework. Students are now able to keep their phones put away during lab activities which has greatly improved engagement, participation, and quality of the work students are turning in. \r\n\r\nThe excitement from students has been immediate. Many of them have shared that this is the first time they've had consistent access to their own calculator in class unless they used a phone. This project has especially helped students who previously struggled with math heavy parts of science. They are able to keep up with their peers and stay engaged in lessons thanks in part to having a dedicated calculator. \r\n\r\nYour support has truly expanded what's possible in our classroom, and I'm so grateful for the opportunities you've created for my students. They're actually building them, testing ideas, and seeing how components work together in real time. This hands-on experience has made concepts like current, resistance, and energy transfer much more engaging and easier to understand.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is the ability to create working projects like lights, alarms, and even simple machines right in front of them. It's incredibly rewarding for them to see something they built actually function.\r\n\r\nI've also noticed that some of my quieter or more hesitant students have really come alive with the snap circuit kits. It is pretty standard fare to read Shakespeare in an AP Literature and Composition classroom, but we have a tendency to read the tragedies! They are excellent, but there are some interesting nuances to what are often called the \"problem-comedies\" of Shakespeare, which include The Merchant of Venice.\r\n\r\nStudents learn about some of the roots of antisemitic stereotypes and the history of such prejudices. At the end of the play, there is a \"happy ending\" and a marriage, but Shylock's comeuppance feels very unsatisfying. Many of the classrooms in our school are still using just whiteboards and projectors. Last year the school was able to purchase a Promethean Board for my classroom, but I wasn't able to mount it anywhere in my room on the walls due to them being filled with cabinets (my room was supposed to be a science prep room originally, not a classroom). The school said they could not purchase a rolling cart for the Smart Board, and suggested I try Donor's Choose. I was happily surprised when the project was funded, as it was a very niche item I needed. \r\n\r\nHaving a Smart Board has made a big difference in the classroom. When I teach, I am able to write on the board, which may seem like a small thing, but previous to having the board, I had to either only project slides on the projector or write everything on the whiteboard. Now I can create slides and interact with them using the Smart Board. This is especially helpful in math, when we work with shapes and graphing. It's hard to show how to graph on a whiteboard. Additionally, students who are doing presentations can now interact with the board as well, or I can have students come up and do example problems on the Smart Board. Myself and my students really appreciate you donating to our school, and your donation will have a lasting impact on the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1744235347380,"projectUrl":"project/smart-board-cart/9013938/","projectTitle":"Smart Board Cart","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Smyke","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9872577"},{"teacherId":9824720,"projectId":9538520,"letterContent":"I hope this message finds you well.\r\n\r\nWords cannot fully express our gratitude for the incredible support and opportunity you have provided to our students. Your generous donation of the graphic novel adaptation of The Jungle by Upton Sinclair is a blessing to our school community.\r\nIf knowledge is power, then you are the vital force that makes that power possible. Thanks to your contribution, we will be able to rotate these books among our four American Literature classes, ensuring that every student has access to this important work.\r\n\r\nThe Jungle captures a pivotal moment in our nation's history (the Progressive Era) shedding light on the sacrifices, struggles, and triumphs that shaped modern America. All of you who contributed have some personal connection to the immigrant experience which is why your donation is so meaningful. Through your generosity, our students will not only read this influential text in an accessible format but also engage in meaningful projects that foster critical thinking, historical awareness, and a deeper understanding of social change.\r\n\r\nYour support helps us inspire curiosity and empower young minds to connect the lessons of the past with the challenges of today.
