My We are just starting our novel study of Among the Hidden, and the students are so excited. Yesterday, we completed a pre-activity where students were placed into 3 scenario groups. Each scenario made them take on a different perspective (shadow child, parent, police), and they had to decide what actions to take for each situation. This really helped them discuss what is morally and ethically right, versus what is legal. \r\n\r\nThis really opened my students up to critical thinking, and even helped build their speaking and listening skills. I cannot wait to see how deep they dive into this story. We will be reading The Giver next, and I am planning to dive deep into the themes within. This shared literary journey builds a sense of camaraderie and encourages students to voice their own opinions while respectfully considering the perspectives of their peers. Ultimately, this initiative does more than just supply books; it provides the tools for young readers to build empathy and develop into more thoughtful, informed, and engaged citizens. Now I have the right size for any and every student in need.\r\n\r\nI was able to retire some old shoes that have a lot of wear and tear. I also now have long term rentals in every size. Sometimes students come to me when their parents cannot get them proper PE shoes. I am able to let them borrow a pair to keep at school for as long as they need. Many students use the shoes all year and are so thankful they can fit in.\r\n\r\nWe are able to build a community that respects the gym and themselves by making sure they have shoes that are safe and comfortable for getting exercise.
