I get asked every single day if we can go see the chickens. The kids love taking them fruits and vegetables. We even have tiny picnic tables in their yard for their daily treats! \r\nWhen we first started receiving items for the chicken yard, the students got excited, but when I opened the packages in the classroom and let the students put the roost together, they began to take ownership of the project and the chickens. Many of them had no idea how to use a screwdriver, but every student in my class got a chance to put at least one screw into the roost so that they could say that they had helped put it together. A few days later, my husband came to the school to help us put up the enclosure. So many students wanted to help him! They all worked together so well and the new home for our chicks looks great! \r\nOur new school year has started, and thos year's students are just as excited about taking care of our chickens. The entire school has embraced the idea of having chickens on school grounds and several other teachers have come to me asking about what else we can do for this outside area.
