While many donors use technology at home for everyday tasks, in our classroom it becomes a powerful learning tool. My students use digital maps and interactive features to explore latitude and longitude, zoom into specific regions, and analyze how location influences people and places. Instead of just reading about geographic concepts, they are actively discovering them. I've watched students light up when they find a location on their own or make connections between a region's geography and how people live there. The technology has made learning more hands-on, immediate, and meaningful.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students most is the ability to interact with the maps in real time. They love zooming in, switching views, and working together to solve challenges at each station. There is a noticeable difference in energy during these lessons—students are talking through their thinking, asking deeper questions, and genuinely enjoying the process of learning. Several students who are usually quiet during whole-group instruction have become leaders during these activities. The visual and interactive nature of the tools has helped them feel more confident and capable.\r\n\r\nOverall, this project has created a more engaging and inclusive learning environment. Students feel empowered when they can explore content independently and collaborate with their peers. It has strengthened not only their geographic skills but also their confidence as learners. I am incredibly grateful for the support that made this possible, because the impact on student engagement and understanding has been both immediate and lasting.","fullyFundedDate":1692027720703,"projectUrl":"project/history-makers/7639438/","projectTitle":"History Makers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Spriggs","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9168940"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_17311","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":572,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":83,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"22.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":34.3,"schoolId":17311,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bellingrath Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bellingrath Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/alabama/montgomery-public-schools/bellingrath-junior-high-school/17311"}
