The books will be made available in the school library for teachers. Teachers will be able to check out these books and read them aloud to their students in class. I will also curate a set of digital resources that may be used for mini lessons or in class activity. The books will also be read aloud during library classes. \r\n\r\nThese books and materials demonstrate to children who, what when, why and how of social emotions and how to relate to others. Emotions such as empathy, kindness, compassion and love are defined and demonstrated within the covers of these books. There are also journaling activities and workbook activities that students may complete to gain a deeper understanding of the topics covered by each book.\r\n\r\nAs students hear the books read aloud, participate in classroom discussions, complete activities and talk about social emotions such as compassion, empathy and love they will begin to exhibit those behaviors as well. To reinforce these behaviors teachers will nominate students for a morning announcement shout out and special treat from the counselor. The library media center will implement a kindness jar. Students will provide examples of kindness after each SE lesson to be added to the jar. A few examples will be read aloud during each library class.","fullyFundedDate":1745496349129,"projectUrl":"project/books-to-inspire-compassion/9228143/","projectTitle":"Books to Inspire Compassion","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rembert","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4025200_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1480306097235","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4025200"},{"teacherId":8523391,"projectId":9286113,"letterContent":"When my students first saw the new sensory movement materials, their faces lit up with excitement. They couldn't wait to climb into the bright red spinning seats, rock back and forth, and explore new ways to move their bodies. For many of my students, regulating their energy and emotions during the day can be challenging. These sensory tools have given them a safe and fun outlet where they can engage in calming movement, develop balance, and enjoy playful interaction with their peers.\r\n\r\nNow, these materials have become a natural part of our daily routine. Students use them during sensory breaks, and I've already noticed that they are calmer and more focused when returning to academic tasks. The movement and play opportunities have also encouraged teamwork, students often spin or rock side by side, laughing together and even helping one another balance. These are powerful moments of social connection that are just as important as academic growth.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, my classroom now has resources that support the whole child, mind and body. You have provided my students with the tools they need to self-regulate, build confidence, and engage joyfully in learning. The next step is continuing to weave these sensory activities into our lessons, helping students connect movement to literacy, math, and social skills practice. Your support has truly made our classroom a place where students feel safe, happy, and ready to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1746786021905,"projectUrl":"project/supporting-sensory-needs-through-moveme/9286113/","projectTitle":"\"Supporting Sensory Needs Through Movement and Play\"","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Marks","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8523391_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1657590867790","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8523391"},{"teacherId":8523391,"projectId":7888646,"letterContent":"I want to sincerely thank you for supporting my self-contained classroom at John Will Elementary. In early 2024, I suffered a stroke and was later diagnosed with Moyamoya disease, a rare condition that required two major surgeries. While it has been a challenging journey, I am grateful to be back with my students and even more thankful for the kindness and support from people like you.\r\n Your contribution has not only impacted my students' lives but has also been a source of encouragement and hope during my own recovery.
