Students from all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds are thrown together in each class. My hope for these kids is for them to discover a literary work they enjoy. For many, they've never read a book for pleasure. \r\n\r\nWe read independently every Friday (sometimes more). During this time, students can ready whatever book they choose! The only requirement is they are reading books until they find something that connects with them. This was a struggle with a limited class library and a picked through school library. Many students are now pulling from our classroom selection.
