The donated apple tree scale is helping us bring math learning outdoors in a fun, hands-on-way. My Pre-K students are using it to compare the weight of different objects, make predictions, count, sort, and talk about concepts such as heavier, lighter, more and less. When the students first saw the materials, they were excited and eager to explore. They immediately began touching the scale, examining the apples, and making guesses about which apples would weigh more.\r\n\r\n Our next step is to continue using this scale by having students collect, sort, and weight different objects in our classroom, such as: cars, apples, rocks, and water. They will record their observation through drawings, numbers, and classroom discussions. This experience has strengthen their early math skills while encouraging curiosity, teamwork, problem-solving, and meaningful connections to the world around them. They are making all kinds of food, using the water wheel to create all kinds of scenarios, using their imaginations and creative thinking . I have witnessed use of social skills, fine motor, gross motor, pretend play and sheer enjoyment. Learning is definitely taking place through developmental play thanks to donors like you. It is important to provide a varied environment to appeal to all different children. It encourages free play and a love of learning. This playhouse is an open design which is so helpful for our students with mobility issues.
