Your generosity has given my students the opportunity to experience two incredible novels together as a class, and I am so excited to see the impact these books will have on their reading and learning.\r\n\r\nHaving a class set of each novel means that every student can have a copy in their hands while we read, annotate, discuss, and explore the stories together. For many of my students, having access to engaging books that they can hold, markup, and return to throughout a unit makes a huge difference in their willingness to read.\r\n\r\nPercy Jackson and the Lightning Thief has been especially exciting for my students because it combines mythology, adventure, humor, and relatable characters. It gives us opportunities to talk about characterization, conflict, themes, allusions, and the ways authors connect stories to mythology and history. I love seeing students get excited about what happens next and having conversations about the characters and their choices.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe Book Thief is giving us a very different experience. Through Liesel's story, my students are exploring historical events, courage, friendship, loss, and the power of words. The novel also provides meaningful opportunities to connect our reading to the historical texts and research we study in class. These are the kinds of conversations that can stay with students long after they finish a book.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, your donation has helped me create a classroom where students can discover that reading is not just something they have to do for a grade—it can be an experience they share, discuss, and remember. Seeing students become invested in characters and stories is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students and helping me build a classroom library filled with books they can truly connect with.
