We use the materials during small-group instruction, math centers, and team challenges to practice skills such as multiplication, division, place value, fractions, and problem-solving. One special moment was watching students work together during a math game. They were explaining their thinking to one another, encouraging their teammates, and celebrating when they solved a challenging problem. The materials helped turn math practice into an experience where students were learning while having fun!\r\n\r\nMy students were so excited when they first saw the new materials! They immediately wanted to touch, explore, and figure out how everything worked. They were especially excited to learn that they would be able to play math games and use manipulatives instead of only completing problems on paper. Their excitement quickly turned into teamwork as they began sharing ideas, asking questions, and helping one another. It was wonderful to see their curiosity and enthusiasm for math.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue using the manipulatives and games to strengthen our math skills and build confidence with challenging concepts. Students will work in small groups to practice solving problems, explain their mathematical thinking, and apply strategies to new situations. We will also continue using the games as opportunities for students to collaborate, communicate, and learn from mistakes. My goal is for students to see themselves as capable mathematicians who can approach challenging problems with confidence and perseverance.","fullyFundedDate":1778800743282,"projectUrl":"project/math-rocks/10272363/","projectTitle":"Math Rocks!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Taylor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10500917"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_16749","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":405,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":69,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":17,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":4,"gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"14.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":69.9,"schoolId":16749,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about James I Dawson Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"James I Dawson Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/alabama/huntsville-city-school-district/west-mastin-lake-elementary-school/16749"}
