When students are waiting their turn to see the nurse or for a parent or guardian to arrive, they are invited to choose a book, settle into the cozy space, and read while they wait. We have seen so many students utilize this space while not feeling well—choosing a book, sitting in the nook, and visibly relaxing as they become engaged in reading. It has truly helped turn what can be a stressful wait into a peaceful experience.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the refreshed space, their reactions were immediate and joyful. They were drawn to the inviting setup and excited to browse the books, especially knowing the book is theirs to keep. This simple opportunity has created a sense of ownership and excitement around reading, particularly for students who may not always have easy access to books at home.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we plan to continue integrating the book nook into our daily routines by encouraging students to make thoughtful book choices and fostering a love of reading during these quieter moments. We also hope to build on this by connecting classroom conversations about emotions and self-regulation to the calming strategies used in the nook. This space is becoming more than just a waiting area—it's a meaningful extension of both literacy and social-emotional learning for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1769976437043,"projectUrl":"project/a-cozy-book-nook-for-calm-comfort-and/9967681/","projectTitle":"A Cozy Book Nook for Calm, Comfort, and Care","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Harbour","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6492103_orig.jpg?crop=1512,1512,x0,y236&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1580930607508","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/a-harbour"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_9928","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":298,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":8,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":51,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":91.8,"schoolId":9928,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Farley Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Farley Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/alabama/huntsville-city-school-district/farley-elementary-school/9928"}
