Our new microscopes have been used to teach students an introductory microscope lesson. Students were engaged in the lessons this year more than ever. Our environmental science class looked at slides under the new microscopes. They practiced using the microscope properly and looked at insect features. In physical science, students performed a density lab using the new balances and physics classes used the balances to complete a measurement challenge. We are thankful for new beakers as well. Chemistry will be using them soon to see color changes in various salts when held over Bunsen burners. It has been wonderful to have the new equipment. In the past, students weren't able to see under our microscopes due to broken lenses. In the past we have had to borrow balances in order for students to be able to do the lab or we all shared one balance. Due to your generous donation, my classroom lessons have been more effective. They are more engaged now and feel confident in their microscope and measurement skills.","fullyFundedDate":1745262331489,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-hands-on-minds-on-environmen/9069586/","projectTitle":"Creating a Hands-on, Minds on Environment With Lab Upgrades!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Owens","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5993633"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_14563","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":364,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":86,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":85,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"15.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":45.0,"schoolId":14563,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about West End High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"West End High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/alabama/etowah-county-school-district/west-end-high-school/14563"}
