Students were able to practice choral reading during whole group read aloud and even had a chance to partner for collaborative discussions of the text. \r\nOne of their favorite activities is sharing their favorite parts and retelling the story. They are so excited to do more author studies throughout the year. With these new titles, we will be able to spend more time reading stories through one author. We also do different projects to correlate with each author.\r\n\r\nWe start off our year reading Brown Bear Brown Bear by Eric Carle, and we talk about colors. We also look at The Hungry Caterpillar during the beginning of the school year. There are a few others we will look at around the middle of the year, and then by the end of the year we will be ready to read Pancakes, Pancakes where we talk about sequencing and the steps it takes to make pancakes. My favorite activity my students work on is when they get to paint and create illustrations like the ones in Eric Carle's stories. We talk about how he will paint newspapers by using different colors and textures. Then we spend a few days reading different titles, while also referencing what we have previously read. After that we decide what characters we would like to create, and then get to work! Once finished, we display our creations in the hallway for others to view. My students love getting to become a real illustrator just like Eric Carle. Not only do we get to enjoy creating, we also talk about sequencing, comparing and contrasting different titles by the same author, and main idea.","fullyFundedDate":1746786025199,"projectUrl":"project/literature-for-littles/9287057/","projectTitle":"Literature for Littles","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Straight","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9508142_orig.png?crop=849,850,x0,y11&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1712615200992","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9508142"},{"teacherId":6087150,"projectId":8997866,"letterContent":"Your contributions have made an enormous impact in student learning, in my classroom.
