We relied on donations and old yoga equipment. Now each student has a mat of their own to have space and a clean environment, the addition of blocks has opened up student flexibility, those who thought they couldn't stretch or reach are now extended and engaged with intentional positions. They also have a sense of responsibility towards this new equipment as it is the theirs to take care of. They've been taught to use blocks to complement their individualized need for practice. Therefore, their flexibility enhances their balance as they become more mindful, less stressed, and integrated into the community for which they've put in hard work this year.\r\n\r\nBefore the addition of paint and brushes, students were limited in how much creative expression they could infuse into their work. Now, with the addition of higher-quality brushes, bigger ideas can become smaller details and the intent to express emotion through certain colors has been supported through higher-quality materials.\r\n\r\nNow that the afterschool art program is open to all grades and has expanded throughout the school, students from other classes are excited to join as well. For these students to have the materials that truly make them feel like artists brings them a sense of pride. They've been able to collaborate, express themselves, and take ownership of their work without fearing punishment for messing up or using something incorrectly. For many of these students, they do not have these resources at home, so to have a communal space for them to freely express themselves has been a great addition to our school. \r\n\r\nThese materials have transformed my classroom from one of production to one of pride, confidence, creativity and mindfulness on a daily basis.","fullyFundedDate":1755809824689,"projectUrl":"project/mats-masterpieces-and-mindfulness/9542812/","projectTitle":"Mats, Masterpieces, and Mindfulness","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Valencia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10114180_orig.jpg?crop=3515,3515,x0,y1230&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754627336261","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/valencia-art"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_131003","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":50,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":30,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":51,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 9","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":60.0,"schoolId":131003,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Young Women's Leadership Academy Las Vegas on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Young Women's Leadership Academy Las Vegas","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nevada/nevada-department-of-education/young-women-s-leadership-academy/131003"}
