These books have brought so much excitement and meaningful learning to our classroom.\r\n\r\nWith these books, my students are building essential skills like identifying themes of resilience, teamwork, and gratitude while learning to make connections between their own lives and the lives of others. For instance, when we read Simone Biles' biography, we explored how determination and a strong support system can help us overcome challenges. One student said, \"If Simone didn't give up, maybe I can keep practicing too!\" Similarly, Messi's story sparked conversations about perseverance and pursuing your dreams, especially when facing obstacles.\r\n\r\nThe seasonal books have been just as impactful. The Day It Rained Hearts by Felicia Bond inspired students to write Valentine's Day cards filled with kind messages to classmates, while Gracias, The Thanksgiving Turkey by Joy Cowley led to discussions about the importance of family, traditions, and giving thanks.\r\n\r\nReading time in our classroom is now a time of excitement and collaboration. During independent reading, I often see students eagerly flipping through the biographies and sharing fun facts about Simone's flips or Messi's legendary goals. Seasonal read-alouds have sparked creativity, with students writing letters of gratitude inspired by Thanksgiving stories or reflecting on how they can show love and kindness during Valentine's Day.\r\n\r\nOne student, in particular, was captivated by Messi's biography. After reading about his journey, they were motivated to share their own story of working hard to improve their soccer skills. Another student, who felt shy speaking up in class, gained confidence when sharing their thoughts on Gracias, The Thanksgiving Turkey and the importance of expressing gratitude.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we'll be using these books to inspire classroom projects like creating gratitude journals for Thanksgiving and writing personal goals inspired by Simone Biles and Messi's journeys.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has given my students opportunities to connect with inspiring role models and celebrate the beauty of holidays and traditions. These resources have transformed the way my students engage with their learning each day. The first time my students saw the new seating options—like wobble stools, lap desks, and cozy floor cushions—their excitement was contagious. Many of them rushed to try them out, asking, \"Can we really sit like this during class?\" Watching their faces light up as they explored their new choices was a moment I'll never forget.\r\n\r\nSince then, the flexible seating has become an integral part of our daily routines. During our recent writing workshop, students were able to choose where they felt most comfortable working. Some preferred wobble stools at tall tables to stay focused, while others sprawled on floor cushions with clipboards, collaborating on story ideas with their peers. One of my students, who previously struggled to stay engaged at a traditional desk, told me, \"I can actually concentrate better now—I love this spot!\"\r\n\r\nThese resources have also empowered students to take ownership of their learning environment. They're more motivated and productive because they can choose a space that meets their needs, whether they need to move a little while working or find a quiet corner to focus.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be using our flexible seating during small-group work. I'm excited to see how these seating choices will continue fostering collaboration and critical thinking as students dive into their learning.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and helping to create an environment where they can thrive!","fullyFundedDate":1735937426616,"projectUrl":"project/fexible-seating-for-thriving-students/9018034/","projectTitle":"Fexible Seating for Thriving Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tritch","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8643940_orig.jpg?crop=1827,1827,x0,y304&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1661216476270","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8643940"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_60156","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":408,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":56,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":14,"percentIndigenous":3,"percentLatinx":67,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"17.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":64.2,"schoolId":60156,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Yavapai Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Yavapai Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/scottsdale-unified-school-district/yavapai-elementary-school/60156"}
