We each have a copy of the book and take turns reading and discussing the plot and the characters. There are many themes in The Wild Robot series including, friendship, empathy, family, and survival. Twice a month, our Kindergarten Buddy classroom comes over and my students read to them. I introduced each buddy with their book and each day I look for students that are polite, kind, or respectful, and those students earn that stuffy for the day. Students seem motivated and really want to have the buddy stuffy at their desk. \r\nStudents were really excited to meet the new friends in out class. \r\nI've also placed the CVC word game with some of my struggling readers and they are enjoying it. I have a unique position at the elementary school- I am able to work with many students from many grades. When students come to see me for intervention, feelings are mixed. Some are excited and nervous, not sure of what to expect. Others are more hesitant. They know they are seeing me because they aren't doing well in reading. These are the students who need a little more convincing. I strive to create a welcoming and safe environment for all students but I want to make the students who are hesitant feel like coming to me isn't because they are failing. \r\nI have been told by several of these students that they love coming to my room. It is unlike regular classrooms and that was all made possible by your donations. The phonics game is a favorite in my classroom during reading time. It is fun and holds their attention while they are learning. \r\nThe hot glue sticks have mended and fixed many things around the classroom. Students don't use it, but with it we can label and keep things organized. \r\nStudents have enjoyed using the dot markers to create fun projects. We most recently used them to make pumpkin art. \r\nI love my new office chair. My old one was falling apart and now I have a cozy spot to work from and students get to use my chair when they are the star of the week. My students have enjoyed having the opportunity to move around the classroom and find places that are comfortable for them to work. We have our laptop desk and baskets of supplies that allow students to work in different locations. \r\n\r\nOn occasion, students get distracted or come to school feeling stressed or tired. Often times, having a quiet place where they can regroup and complete their work helps them to focus and get on task. Having the opportunity to move around the room also allows peers to connect and engage with those not sitting near them. \r\n\r\nIn closing, thanks again for your kindness in supporting my students. The water color paper, liquid water colors and Sharpies have already been used by over fifty students in numerous art projects. We've completed maps of the original thirteen colonies and many doodle art projects using both Sharpies and water colors. Most of my students have never used liquid water colors before being in my class. They provide a more vivid painting experience than traditional watercolors in a tray. Watercolor paper provides a much better finished product than using regular construction or printer paper.
