The kids were very curious about the giant rubber bands I asked them to attach to the front legs of their chair. Once they placed the bands and sat in the chair, the little lightbulb went off! They could bounce! In their chairs! They could have busy bodies without disturbing anyone else! It also reduced the number of students tipping back in their chairs!\r\nWe also received decodable reader sets. These little books were a big hit! This was the first book many students ever read independently. But thanks to amazing donors we have a class set! If you can imagine yourself trying to have an important conversation while 5 or more televisions on different channels play in the background and there is a rowdy group having a picnic nearby, well that is Kindergarten life. While I'm trying to teach new material to one group of students, another group is noisily doing skill practice together and then one group is working on their Chromebooks. Not having headphones was a noisy disaster!\r\nWith headphones, students stay focused. They see the computer as a learning tool and don't get distracted by what the kid next to them is doing. We use a special program called Istation that assesses students monthly and adjust their learning activities accordingly.
