I have to admit, it took awhile to work out a system that allowed us to use these products efficiently. You won't believe how challenging it is to teach young people how to physically connect to a computer to print when all they have ever known is a wireless, instantaneous, internet and technology centered world! :) \r\n\r\nWe used the printer and markers primarily for writing workshops! Our biggest writing unit was a persuasive writing unit in which students wrote two different essays. The first essay had students write persuasively about the debate of whether or not sports are safe for school-aged children. As middle schoolers, you can imagine they had VERY strong opinions on this issue! Next, students wrote with school board and district administrators in mind about which middle school electives are most beneficial to students in the hypothetical that all but one elective would be cut from their schedules. \r\n\r\nWe also got the opportunity to use the materials for a spooky Edgar Allen Poe unit in which we practiced annotating a text to keep track of our analysis as we read. In a technology forward age, having the opportunity and resources to slow down and practice mechanical thinking was such a benefit to our students. \r\n\r\nI hope you enjoy the few snippets of writing I was able to include. Reading their work makes me happy as I can see their writing voice getting stronger as the year progresses. I also love getting to see their feedback to each other and I am so proud of how they help make each other stronger writers.","fullyFundedDate":1679974305696,"projectUrl":"project/writing-workshop-tools/7048692/","projectTitle":"Writing Workshop Tools","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Stevens","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8172995_orig.jpg?crop=308,308,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1638139244376","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8172995"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_51943","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":396,"numTeachers":29,"percentFrplEligible":88,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":67,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":20,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"5 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"13.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":70.0,"schoolId":51943,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Woodside Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Woodside Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/iowa/saydel-community-school-district/woodside-middle-school/51943"}
